Painting
The
painting program will cover the evolution and techniques of Greek
painting throughout history, covering an extensive library of
simple, as well as complex, drawing and painting styles.
Beginning with ancient painting we will also cover architectural
development and sculpting techniques into the modern era. Some of the
representative art forms included are: Geometric, Archaic, Classical,
and Hellenistic styles, oil on canvas, wall painting and pottery
painting, to mention a few. Special attention will be paid to coloring
and materials used.Day 4 –Tuesday 9:00 – 09:15:
Those participants who have chosen one of our affiliated hotels will be picked up at their respective hotels for transfer to the Painting Gallery School located at the Glyfada vicinity. Other participants need to get to the location on their own.
Classes start at 09:30.
09:30 – 12:30:
The morning hours will be devoted to a general introduction to the history of Greek painting. We will then focus on various distinct types of painting, specifically:
Session 1.
Introduction to the Prehistoric era, the earliest Greek paintings era, the Minoan culture from the island of Crete from around 1700-1400 BC, and when the Myceneans destroyed the palaces around 1400 BC, some of the pictures survived buried under the ruins of the palaces.
Session 2.
Introduction to the various basic Greek art & painting periods divided stylistically into four categories: the Geometric (900-700 B.C), Archaic (700-480 B.C.), Classical (480-323 B.C.), and Hellenistic period (323-31 B.C) further there will be an introduction to the Roman Period in Greece 323 A.D. and the Byzantine Period in Greece A.D. 323-1453 depicting the various changes in painting styles and application forms, from pottery painting, stone carving architectural drawings, and much more.
There will be a 15 minute break after sessions 1 and 2.
12:30 – 13:30: Lunch. There are many different restaurants within walking distance from the academy. However, we hope that most of you will join us at a chosen restaurant where we can share food and experiences from the morning sessions.
Session 3.
13:30 – 15:30: The afternoon session will introduce and display various original Greek paintings and tehir details, for physical review and comprehension.
15:30: Bus pickup at the academy for transfer back to hotels.
